See 'As I Am: The Life And Times Of DJ AM' In River Forest

RIVER FOREST, IL — Oak Park and River Forest residents can get an inside look at a famous DJ's struggles with addiction at a special screening of "As I Am: The Life And Times Of DJ AM" in River Forest on September 8. The screening, presented by the Addiction Recovery Team of the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township, will include a panel discussion free food, and live music.
DJ AM, whose real name was Adam Michael Goldstein, died in 2009 of a drug overdose after struggling with addiction for decades. He was 36.
The 2015 film takes an intimate look at Goldstein's career and personal struggles through interviews with family members, fans, and friends, including A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Samantha Ronson, and more. Goldstein, who had been sober for nine years, relapsed in 2008, the same year that he and musician Travis Barker were in a Learjet crash in South Carolina that claimed the life the pilot and three other passengers.

The panel discussion will delve into Goldstein's addiction and the struggles that people with substance use disorder face on a daily basis. Viewers are encouraged to ask questions and share their own stories at the event.
