South Marion District to Rebrand with New Name

Renovated area to become Pleasant District in an effort to connect to local history.

After the $5.4 million facelift on South Marion Drive is finished, the area will also boast a brand new name: Pleasant District.

An association board decided to rename the South Marion District to connect it with historic Pleasant Home, as well as give the area a more cohesive feel.

“This initiative, essentially we wanted to create a more connected and distinctive district,” Carli Gini of Serenity Partners told TribLocal.

A ceremony will be held sometime in November for the relaunch of the district, which is when the renovations, which includes new lamps, brick streets, granite curbs, lighting, benches and bike racks, should be finished. The village has earmarked $32,000 for marketing during construction in an effort to keep business steady.
