Teen Grabs Pedestrian In Thwarted Attempt To Nab Phone: Oak Park Police

A teenager reportedly exited a car and attempted to grab a pedestrian's cellphone. Police seek the public's help finding the offenders.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park Police are seeking the public's help in finding a teen who allegedly pulled up alongside a pedestrian and tried to steal her cellphone. The incident took place in the 200 block of South Ridgeland shortly after 5 p.m. on June 11.

According to police, a beat-up red two-door vehicle pulled up alongside the female victim as she walked on the sidewalk. A black male teenager reportedly exited the passenger side of the vehicle, grabbed the woman's wrist and demanded, "Gimme the phone." The victim then pushed the offender's hand away as he tried to steal her iPhone 6, police said. The teen then re-entered the vehicle and the driver and passenger fled southbound on Ridgeland.

The teen is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a faded haircut. At the time of the attempted theft, he was wearing no shirt and dark jeans with a white T-shirt in the back pocket. The driver was described as a male, but no further description is available at this time, according to police.
