Calling all food lovers! Join us at Maze Branch Library, Saturday, March 2 at 2 pm, for the second installment of The Local Epicurean - a new series featuring local food writers and chefs sharing experiences, tips, demonstrations and more.
In its inaugural installment, local food writer David Hammond shared his passion for writing about food, and becoming a better person through food writing.
Next up is Emily Paster, sharing tips for canning and preserving. If you're already thinking about your summer garden and its bounty of deliciousness, don't miss this installment. Be ready to hit the ground running when the first rhubarbs and strawberries make their appearance, and preserve your garden's fruits and vegetables to enjoy year-round.
The co-founder of The Chicago Food Swap, Emily's shares recipes, tips, reviews and more at West of the Loop, her blog about the joys and difficulties of parenting and feeding our families.
In April, Karl Bader of Karl's Craft Soup, joins the lineup to explore what makes soup, enjoyed in every culture, so special. His lively presentation, April 29 at 7 pm, will include insightful tips on choosing the best seasonal produce for your soups, preparing soups for every occasion, and he'll share samples.
Karl, who grew up in the restaurant business, has launched healthy-eating lunch projects at several local grammar schools and currently specializes in fresh, small batch soups available all over Chicagoland. He is the former owner of Oak Park's S3 Kitchen.
