Village Manager, Cara Pavlicek

Village Attorney, Paul Stephanides,

 Non Agenda Items:

1. Dawn Mueller offered to clear away debris and police the flower containers near her home if the village would provide the necessary materials.

2. Kenneth Radnitzer, a long term Oak Park resident and WWII Veteran, asked that the trustees consider doing more to recognize retired Veterans and to put up more memorials commemorating the various wars in which U.S. lives were lost.

3. Carolyn Brown of 100 Forest Place stated that this is her second time before the board asking that the trustees reconsider the ordinance that prohibits turning on air conditioning in high rise buildings before June 1.  She stated that her building had seen temperatures in the 90’s and that it put elderly residents, in particular, in a state of distress.

4. Victoria Vas Consellas presented the board with a packet of information regarding  e-cigarettes.  She feels that further consideration should be given to the benefits of e-cigarettes before passing legislation.  Ms. Van Consellas sells e-cigs online and in five Cignot stores.

Regular Agenda:

A.  Discussion was held regarding the updating of the building codes.  The committee has been working hard to create codes that are not as ambiguous as they have seemed in the past and to make sure that there is agreement across the various codes.  Trustees Lueck and Salzman voiced the idea that there needs to be a forum for residents to address concerns when they feel they have a case for a variance.

All new construction of one and two family homes will now be required to have sprinkler systems.

B.  Discussion was held about the issue of speed bumps in Oak Park.  The fire chief said that the fire department opposes the use of speed bumps due to three concerns:  response time, patient transfer and wear and tear on the equipment.

The police chief reported that speed bumps don’t do much to deter speeders and that the police department also prefers not to have them.

A motion to retain the existing policy of prohibiting speed bumps was passed by a vote of five to two.

If residents feel that their street is in need of a speed bump, they may come to the village and petition for a hearing on the topic.

C.  A resolution to authorize a three year agreement with KONE for elevator repair and maintenance was passed.

All items on the consent agenda were passed and the meeting adjourned at 9 P.M.
