Watch River Forest Hiker’s Helicopter Rescue from Montana Wilderness

After six days lost in the Montana wilderness without food, Madeline Connelly, 23, was airlifted from a steep part of Bear Head Creek Trail.

RIVER FOREST, IL — After six days of searching the Montana wilderness for a missing hiker from River Forest, search and rescue teams found Madeline Connelly and her dog, Mogi, alive and well. Connelly was located only five miles from her car after she had made a wrong turn on Bear Creek Trail. A helicopter from Two Bear Air Rescue successfully lifted Connelly and her dog out of a particularly steep and remote area of the trail.

Connelly, who reportedly asked rescuers if she could simply hike out with them, had lost her way on her hike and spent days heading deeper into the woods as she tried to find her way back. Connelly went days without food and was only able to get water from nearby creeks. She and her dog slept under trees as heavy rain fell on Sunday. Connelly, a seasoned hiker, had brought nothing with her when she headed from her car and out onto the trail last Thursday.
