Whole Foods Recalls Cheese For Possible Listeria Contamination

RIVER FOREST, IL — Whole Foods has issued a voluntary recall of a cheese it sells due to a potential listeria contamination. The recall of Explorateur French Triple Crème cheese affects nine stores throughout the U.S., including two in Illinois.

The potentially contaminated Explorateur French Triple Crème cheese products were sold in Whole Foods Market Stores in River Forest at 7245 Lake St. and in Deerfield at 760 Waukegan Rd.

The recall applies to Explorateur, Explorateur French Triple Crème Cheese, and Explorateur Triple Crème French Cheese, which comes in 8-ounce packages, Whole Foods said in a news release. Officials say the cheese had sell-by dates between Feb. 15, 2018 and April 3, 2018.

Customers who bought Explorateur Triple Crème French Cheese or Explorateur in 8 oz. branded packages can bring their receipts to Whole Foods Market to get a full refund, the company said.

Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne bacteria that can lead to listeriosis, which can be severe or fatal in pregnant women, elderly people, infants, and people with compromised immune systems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of listeriosis may include:

• Fever
• Muscle aches
• Chills
• Loss of balance
• Headache
• Confusion
• Diarrhea

The Whole Foods cheese recall also impacted stores in Connecticut, New Mexico, Arkansas, Texas, and New Jersey.
