100 Years of Unique Leadership in Girl Scouts (Gallery)

Hundreds of scouts and supporters gathered at Orland Square Mall to celebrate 100 years of empowering young women.

The Girl Scouts have come a long way from Savannah.

On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded what was called Girl Scouting. She believed girls were interested in sports, science, leadership and building the world up around them as much as their male counterparts. It started with 18 members, and today is comprised of about 3.2 million women and girls nationwide.

On Monday, hundreds of girl scouts came to to participate in massive “promise circles,” to celebrate the organization’s 100th birthday.
