Cheers to the Chicago Spirit Brigade for Helping Kids Fighting Cancer

On Saturday, June 8, 2019 and Sunday, June 9, 2019 the Chicago Spirit Brigade used their athletic talent and enthusiasm at the Andersonville Midsommarfest to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The team raised an amazing $2,101.85 during their performances over the two days that directly benefited children and teens fighting cancer.
The Chicago Spirit Brigade is a community-based fundraising organization whose purpose is to raise money and awareness for non-profit groups that provide direct care services to individuals with life-altering challenges. Each time Chicago Spirit Brigade performs at an event, they take along their “spirit buckets” to accept the generous donations of spectators who have been moved by their thrilling performance and inspired by their mission. 100% of the money raised goes directly to the pre-selected beneficiary for that event.
“Because of the generosity of the Chicago Spirit Brigade Cheerleaders the Treasure Chest Foundation will be able to present toys and gift cards to children and teens undergoing years of medical procedures while being treated for cancer,” said Colleen Kisel, Founder and CEO of the Treasure Chest Foundation.

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 13,300 young cancer patients in 56 cancer treatment centers in 19 states across the nation. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 26th anniversary of remission from the disease in March of 2019.
