Richton Park man faces aggravated robbery charge after he uses BB gun to rob a Craigslist buyer in the Marcus Theatre parking lot, cops say.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- A Richton Park man used a BB gun to snatch cash and an iPhone from the seller in the Marcus Theatres parking lot during a Craigslist deal gone bad, police said in a news release. Felony charges were approved over the weekend for Daniel Gassaway, 22, for aggravated armed robbery. He was taken into custody at his home shortly after the purported robbery.

Orland Park police responded to the Marcus-Orland Park Cinema at 163rd Street and LaGrange Road around 8:52 p.m. Friday for an armed robbery that had just occurred. The buyer had arranged over Craigslist to meet Gassaway in the movie theatre parking lot to purchase an iPhone X, police said. Gassaway allegedly went into the buyer’s car to discuss the sale. After the buyer gave Gassaway the money, he pulled out a silver handgun that later turned out to be a BB gun, police said.

Gassaway allegedly grabbed he buyer’s money and the iPhone and took off. Investigators identified Gassaway in fairly short order and arrested him at his Richton Park home, police said. Bond information was not provided.
