Darvin Furniture & Mattresses Honored for Giving Back
Recipient of City of Hope Spirit of Life Award

Steve and Marty Darvin, third-generation owners of Darvin Furniture & Mattress, Orland Park, were recently honored with the City of Hope Spirit of Life Award.
The Spirit of Life Award is presented to individuals who exemplify the ideals and values that have guided City of Hope for a century, and whose professional and humanitarian accomplishments are worthy of celebration.
City of Hope, one of the nation's largest cancer research and treatment organizations and leading research centers for diabetes and other life-threatening illnesses, recognizes industry leaders each year for their outstanding professional and philanthropic contributions at the Spirit of Life Award Dinner, in North Carolina.

For third generation owners Steve and Marty Darvin, having their name associated with such a familiar Chicagoland business comes with added responsibilities that include giving back to help others in need. "Marty and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be involved with City of Hope for much of our careers," says Steve Darvin. "Their outright commitment to delivering the cures of tomorrow to the people who need them today makes it easy to support such inspirational work."
Research and technology developed at City of Hope have been the basis for numerous breakthrough cancer medicines, as well as human synthetic insulin and monoclonal antibodies. City of Hope brings a uniquely integrated model to patients spanning cancer care, research and development, academics and training, and innovation initiatives. "It is humbling for Steve and me to be recognized for something we have always felt was simply part of our jobs – to lead by example," says Marty Darvin. "We are honored to be receiving the Spirit of Life Award from City of Hope." This year’s campaign raised $1.7 million to advance research and treatment of cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases."

Today, Darvin Furniture is 100 percent employee owned. More than 200 Darvin employees participated in the event and more than 500 customers contributed to the City of Hope fundraiser leading up to the Awards Dinner.
