District 230 students excel at SkillsUSA State competition

Two qualify for Nationals and several bring home medals

The Illinois Association of SkillsUSA held its​ 51st annual Leadership and Skills Conference in Springfield, Illinois on April 23– 25. The conference leadership and skill events were held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center, the Capital Area Career Center, the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, and the Springfield Hilton Hotel. The nearly 1,800 registered participants are supported by an additional 300 business and industry, organized labor and educational professionals who supervise and judge the competition and provide technical support.

Students participated in nine areas of competition, Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Adobe Photoshop Design, Architectural CAD, Automotive Service Technology, Cabinetmaking, Clothing Construction, Diesel Equipment Technology, Information Technology Service, and Technical CAD. All students had to take qualifying exams before being allowed to compete at the state level. At the state level, students competed in their areas by completing real-world, hands on problem solving tasks based on industry standards and certifications. District 230 schools had excellent showings

​Andrew High School​

​Andrew High School took home a gold, silver and bronze medal. Andrew’s Commercial Baking and TV/Video Production were National Qualifiers. They will represent Illinois in their respective competitions in Louisville, KY this June at National SkillsUSA. Top Ten finishers for the Tbolts include:​
