Drone Used To Track Fleeing Suspect: Cops

Orland Park police used a drone to apprehend suspect fleeing from Chicago police, cops say.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- Orland Park police used a drone to track down a fleeing suspect who was believed to be armed with a gun. Arturo Galvez, 30, is facing felony charges in Orland Park of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest. Galvez was chased into Orland Park by Chicago police where he fended off police officers, according to a police news release.

CPD officers were tracking suspect Galvez who was wanted on an incident that happened in Chicago, police said. Around 10:51 a.m. April 30, Orland Park police were informed that Chicago police were in Orland Park, who asked for assistance to apprehend a fleeing suspect possibly armed with handgun.

CPD officers tried to take Galvez into custody on a traffic stop in the area of 147th Street and John Humphrey Drive. Galvez allegedly fought them off and fled on foot to a medical building at 10 Orland Square. CPD followed Galvez there, who fended off officers a second time and ran to another part of the business, police said. Officers did not find a handgun.

Orland Park police arrived, set up a perimeter and immediately began searching for the suspect. Moments later, Galvez was spotted in the Walgreens at 147th Street and LaGrange Road. Galvez allegedly fled from Orland Park police, who chased after the suspect on foot. Galvez was apprehended in the parking lot of a bank at 147th Street and Ravinia Avenue. He was turned over to Chicago police.

Galvez is being held without bond. His next court date is May 24 in Bridgeview.
