Orland Park Police Department Welcomes New Therapy Dog
"Petals" is a schnauzer-terrier mix just over a year old. She was sworn in June 1.

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Orland Park Police Department is proud to announce the addition of a new therapy dog, “Petals,” who was officially sworn in on June 1.
Petals is a 1-year, 4-month-old schnauzer-terrier mix who was originally rescued as a stray through Waggin’ Tails in Cicero, Illinois. She later underwent specialized therapy and comfort dog training through Tails of Redemption in partnership with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to joining the Orland Park Police Department, Petals participated in numerous deployments alongside the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, providing comfort and emotional support during a variety of community and critical incident responses.

Petals will be handled by Officer Dan Minx and will serve as a resource for both the community and department personnel. As demonstrated through the department’s established therapy dog program, therapy dogs play an important role in supporting victims, engaging with community members and helping reduce stress during difficult circumstances.
With K-9 Holly already established in the field, the addition of Petals will allow the department’s therapy dogs to serve on alternating shifts, increasing their availability to both the public and fellow public safety personnel.

While Petals has already completed extensive training, she will continue her professional development by attending the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) Therapy Dog Certification Course in July to obtain official certification through the state.
The Orland Park Police Department said it is excited to welcome Petals to the team and looks forward to the positive impact she will have throughout the community.
