Grandparents Head Back to School—At Least for a Visit

Thursday, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Catholic School was abuzz with joy and gratitude as students and staff welcomed grandparents and special family members for a heartwarming Grandparents Day celebration. The event, held in the O’Mara and McBrady Centers, turned the spaces into vibrant lunchrooms, accommodating two lively sessions filled with love and laughter.

Students played a central role in the celebration, decorating the rooms with cherished photographs of their grandparents and creating a colorful alphabet of reasons why they are loved. From the wisdom they impart to the delightful corny jokes that bring smiles, students made sure every detail reflected their appreciation.

Grandparents and special guests had the opportunity to enjoy a full lunch hour with their grandchildren, making it a memorable experience for all. The setup allowed families with multiple children or cousins attending Cardinal Joseph Bernardin to gather together, reinforcing the strong family bonds within the school community. Many grandparents took the chance to spoil their grandchildren with special meals and treats, adding an extra touch of sweetness to the occasion.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy, a sight that lunch supervisor Joan Lester found particularly heartwarming. “It was just so nice to catch a peek into the special relationship that grandparents and grandchildren have,” she remarked, reflecting on the day’s memorable moments.
