Hanley Steps Down as Orland Hills Trustee

Michael Hanley gave an emotional farewell Wednesday night as he resigned from his position as an Orland Hills village trustee.

Citing "circumstances at home" for stepping down from his third term as an Orland Hills village trustee, Hanley thanked residents for supporting him during a period of growth for the community. Hanley also expressed appreciation for Mayor Kyle Hastings, and for Village Administrator John Daly, especially during times when he was critical of village plans.

"I'll fondly remember everything that we've done and I'm happy to continue living here," Hanley said. "In my eyes, it's the best-kept secret in Illinois."   

Hastings credited Hanley for helping to maintain balanced budgets for the village during his terms, and listed Hanley among "good elected officials" the village has had, including Art Gnech who passed away recently while serving as a trustee.

"Mike Hanley is one of the individuals who put in 110 percent day in and day out, with different committees, helping out, looking at things with a fine-tooth comb," Hastings said. "He'd call me at night and say 'What about this or that.' There isn't a finer elected official or finer person I know than Mike Hanley."

Hanley had served as a village trustee since April 1999. Outside of village politics, he also works as an assistant coach for football and track at Carl Sandburg High School and is a state-licensed plumber.

Less than six months remained in Hanley's third term before he would be up again for re-election in April.
