Holiday Cheer and Generosity Comes Early to Orland Township
More than 70 hand-crocheted winter hats donated to Holiday Program

Fall may have just started, but Orland Township has already received a donation for the annual Holiday Program, according to the office of Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.
Jean Metzler of Orland Park recently brought more than 70 winter hats to the Township. Metzler started her project in July, crocheting each hat herself. An hour or two at a time, over the course of approximately two months, she lovingly made 72 winter hats, in a variety of colors, and generously donated them all to the Orland Township Holiday Program.
“When I go to the grocery in the winter, I’ve noticed that none of the children are wearing hats,” Metzler said. “So, since I love to crochet, I thought I would make some hats and donate them.”

“Caring residents, like Mrs. Metzler, are the reason the Township is able to help so many individuals,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “She noticed a need and decided to use her talent to help out. The Township is fortunate to have such kind-hearted residents like Mrs. Metzler and we truly appreciate all her hard work and generosity.”
Robin Kassis, Township Food Pantry and Holiday Program coordinator, thanked Mrs. Metzler on behalf of Supervisor O'Grady and the Board of Trustees, for her donation.

“This is such a blessing,” said Kassis of the hat donation. “These hats are a wonderful addition to our Holiday Program.”
The Orland Township Holiday Program provides a holiday meal and fills the gift wish lists of more than 170 local families in need of assistance. The entire program is possible through the support of the community.
“Because of the caring spirit and generosity of our community, we are able to provide some holiday cheer to our neighbors in need,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “Donations of food items, gifts and time from local businesses, community groups and individuals all contribute to make our Holiday Program so successful every year.”
