‘I’m Committed to Holding a Book in My Hand’: 75 Years of the Orland Park Public Library

Orland Park's library is celebrating its 75th birthday, starting with music and acknowledging avid library enthusiasts who also turn 75 this year, and other occasions to come.

The has come a long was from a small building on 143rd Street.

In the 75 years since the library has existed, it has gone from the small Purple Candle Building to the Aileen S. Andrew Memorial, and now resides in the 93,000 square-foot home at 14921 Ravinia Avenue.

On Feb. 14, the library invited residents, including others who will celebrate their 75th birthday in 2012 as well, to lunch from and music by the Die Musikmeisters German Band.

To celebrate the growth and progression, the library is holding other birthday celebrations during the year.

On Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m., Terry Lynch will be portraying reporter Herb Morrison in describing the Hindenburg disaster, and a full birthday party will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 19.
