Island Lake DLG Foundation and Treasure Chest Foundation Unite to Deliver Smiles to Kids Fighting Cancer

The Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF) recently received a donation of toys thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of the DLG Foundation.
DLG Foundation’s mission is to keep Jason’s loving and generous spirit alive through simple acts of kindness.
The DLG Foundation recently held a bingo and pizza event at Aurelio’s Pizza in Crete, IL. The 25 attendees were asked to bring a toy or gift card and de la Garza donated the treasures to the POTCF for the fourth year. “Jason was a big kid who passed away in February of 2015. He had a kind and generous soul and he would have loved that we did this in his memory. A big kid himself, this jovial spirit loved helping others and serving kids. We won’t say he died of cancer, because we won’t give it that power,” said Jason’s wife, Allison, Founder of the DLG Foundation.

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 13,300 young cancer patients in 54 cancer treatment centers in 19 states across the nation. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 25th anniversary of remission from the disease in March.
