Orland Firefighters Rescue Lost Chihuahua In Freezing Temps
Resident grateful for Orland firefighters' help in rescuing lost chihuahua under shed.
ORLAND PARK, IL -- Holly is a 4-year-old tan, 8-lb., female Chihuahua, who was obtained as a rescue pet on Saturday January 20th. On Sunday morning, the next day she was able to escape a fenced yard and had disappeared. The family, friends, neighbors and others searched for her and were unsuccessful in finding her before the weather again turned cold. She was lost in the Catalina Subdivision in Orland Park near 151st and 80th Avenue about 7:30 AM Saturday.
On Thursday January 25th Holly was sighted and rescued through the efforts of many neighbors, Heather's Foster Dogs and the Orland Park Fire Department. The small 6 pound dog, who had survived 4 days and nights in sub-freezing weather, snow and rain was located under a large shed in the Catalina Subdivision. When the dog could not be coaxed out from under the shed the Orland Park Fire Department assisted by raising the shed using hydraulic equipment and allowing access to the dog. She was taken immediately to a veterinarian who examined her and found that she was in excellent health and only slightly dehydrated. She is back with her new family. Many thanks to all for their help!
