Motorcyclist Dies after Crash in Orland Park

The 70-year-old Crestwood man swerved to avoid a car turning left.

A 70-year-old Crestwood man was killed late last week when his motorcycle collided with a car in Orland Park.

Jerry C. Johnson, of the 13100 block of Forest View Lane, was driving his motorcycle westbound on 135th Street about 5:20 p.m. when he struck an eastbound 2007 Cadillac waiting to make a left turn northbound onto 88th Avenue, Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Cadillac, driven by an 87-year-old woman, was moving so slowly it nearly stopped, witnesses told police. Johnson reportedly swerved to avoid hitting it, but struck the rear quarter panel. He was thrown from his bike. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 10:48 a.m. Thursday.

An autopsy determined he died from injuries he suffered in the crash, and his death was ruled an accident. He was not wearing a helmet. Family said Johnson’s organs were donated to those in need.

The woman was not injured. She was cited for failure to yield when making a left turn.
