Nail Salon Guy Shoved His Hands in Young Woman's Pants and Groped Her Breast: Cops

The Vietnamese immigrant insisted he only massages customers "below the knees," police said.

A nail salon worker shoved his hands into a woman’s pants with such force as he tried to reach her genitals that he put bruises on her thigh, police said.

Ban Nguyen, 61, was charged with battery in connection with his alleged Valentine’s Day assault on the 22-year-old woman.

The woman put off informing the law about the incident until the following month “because she felt ashamed and embarrassed,” police said.

The woman stopped into Annabelle Nail Salon on 143rd Street the afternoon of Feb. 14 so she could get a pedicure, police said. She reportedly told police Nguyen escorted her to a chair in the back of the shop, rolled up her pant legs and started rubbing lotion on her calves.

The woman said Nguyen “continued to go higher and higher on her legs and began reaching up under (her) pants and forced his hands on her upper thighs,” according to a police report.

The woman “stated that she was unsure of what is normal for a pedicure but began feeling uncomfortable when (Nguyen) went up past the knees,” the report said. Nguyen “then tried forcing his hands towards her genitals. (She) pressed her legs together and asked (him) to stop several times. (The woman) explained to (an officer) that the dress pants that she was wearing that day were tight and that (Nguyen) left bruises on her left upper thigh because he was forcing his hand under them so much.”

After the woman told Nguyen to stop touching her legs, he grabbed her breast, the report said.

The woman ordered Nguyen to “stop and handed him nail polish and told him to finish her toes so she can leave,” police said. He “then took the nail polish by placing his whole hand over hers and began caressing it until (she) pulled away. (She) stated that this also made her feel uncomfortable.”

The woman reportedly left before her pedicure was finished. She later spoke with her mother—a frequent customer of the Annabelle Nail Salon—and found out “it is very unusual to be taken to a chair located in the rear of the business,” police said.

An officer dropped into the salon and was told by the manager that the only male worker there is her father, Nguyen, police said. The 22-year-old woman later picked Nguyen out of a photo lineup, according to a report.

After Nguyen was arrested, a detective reportedly spoke with him through an interpreter and asked if he knew why he had been taken into custody. Nguyen “responded by stating he only does massages below the knees,” police said.

Nguyen “also stated that he just came from Vietnam” and “again stated that he only touches below the knees.”

Nguyen posted $150 for his release.
