Cops Save 3 Kids From Carjacking Kidnapper: Police

The kidnapper led officers on a chase across the near west side, police said.

A kidnapper sped off with three children who were left in a car by their mother as she unloaded groceries Sunday night, police said.

The 31-year-old woman parked outside her South Joliet Street home and left her children—ages 7 and 6 and 3 months—in the car while she brought in the groceries shortly after 9 p.m., police said.

While she was preoccupied with moving her purchases, 31-year-old Anthony Wright allegedly slipped into her Cadillac and drove away, leaving the anguished mother behind.

The mother called the cops and the police put the word out about the alleged abduction. Shortly after, an officer patrolling Evergreen Terrace reportedly noticed the Cadillac coming over the Cass Street bridge.

Wright refused to stop for the law, police said, and proceeded to lead officers on a chase all the way to intersection of Jefferson Street and Midland Avenue, where he finally surrendered.

The children were reportedly unharmed and were returned to their mother.

While the woman and her children live only about four blocks from Wright’s South Des Plaines Street home, she told officers she has no idea who he is or why he would take her children.

Wright was jailed on charges with aggravated kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful restraint.
