ORLAND PARK, IL -- A man found passed out on a Pace bus turned out to be a non-compliant sex predator, prosecutors said. Reginald Fields, 58, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on felony charges of failure to register as a sex offender and possession of a controlled substance.

Fields, whose last known address was the 9700 block of South Ellis Avenue, Chicago, was convicted of criminal sexual assault in 1992. The prosecutor said that Fields is required to register with the state as a sexual predator for the rest of his life. Fields was 30 and his victim 5-years-old at the time of the offense.

On May 8, a Pace bus driver called police when he couldn’t wake Fields up. When Orland Park police arrived, officers ran Fields’ identification and learned that he was required to register as a sex offender every nine days. The prosecutor said Fields’ last registration was in February 2018.

Police also claimed to have found three suspected crack rocks in Fields’ wallet. The prosecutor said Fields was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender and sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Fields has multiple convictions for failing to register as a sex offender in Illinois and other states, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Fields is the father of 25 children. He is currently on supplemental security income.
