OFPD to offer tips to avoid mishaps while grilling
Orland Fire Protection District "Coffee & Conversation" Thursday, May 24, will provide safety tips to avoid barbecue grilling mishaps
How to barbecue safely and avoid mishaps is the topic of this month's “Coffee and Conversation” hosted monthly by the Orland Fire Protection District.
The "Coffees" are open to the public and this month will be held on Thursday, May 24 at the Fire District’s administration building, 9790 W. 151st Street. The two-hour program begins at 10 AM.
Fire officials cautioned that what begins as a fun family summer event can end up with injuries caused by burns from the grill and worse.

Fire Chief Michael Schofield said the mishaps and injuries are avoidable if families follow basic safety steps.
"The summer barbecue can and should be a fun time for families. It takes a little care to ensure that nothing will go wrong. Families are dealing with fire, propane tanks and lighter fluid and they can't be taken for granted. Any one of those items could become part of an accident that causes injuries that is avoidable," Schofield said.

Schofield said the "Conversation" this month will discuss accidents that have happened and how they can be avoided.
The "Coffee & Conversation" program is hosted by the OFPD, Orland Senior Advisory Council (SAC), and Aishling Companion Home Care.
