Orland Fire Protection District Open House Thursday July 13

Orland Fire Protection DIstrict will host its annual Open House with an array of emergency simulations Thursday evening July 13 at 6:30 PM

The Orland Fire Protection District will host its annual Open House on Thursday July 13, 2023 featuring an assortment of demonstrations of emergency response scenarios.

This year, the popular Open House which features an array of emergency response demonstrations will be held during the evening from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at the OFPD Training Center, 10728 W. 163rd Place.

"This is one of most popular events each year when the public can experience firsthand the many emergency response scenarios that the fire department addresses during emergency calls," said Orland Fire Chief Michael Schofield.

"The open house not only showcases our response efforts, but also gives families and children an opportunity to learn about home safety practices, and to inspect firsthand our emergency response equipment."

Demonstrations will include: a Hazmat Team response scenario; a Car Fire and Car Extraction scenario; our Dive Team responses to water related emergencies at district ponds; how firefighters use ropes to rescue individuals from the upper floors of buildings; and a demonstration of the OFPD Cardiac Arrest/CPR response.

"We are very proud of the fact that the Orland Fire Protection District has a 71 percent Cardiac Arrest Save Rate, one of the highest if not the highest in the region," Chief Schofield said. The national Save Rate average is 10 to 15 percent.

The Open House will also offer special activities and programs for children including letting the children experience the firefighters Emergency Response Pole, trying on and inspecting firefighter gear, meet the comfort dogs, participate in a Show and Tell program, and inspect close up all of the Fire District's Trucks and vehicles.
