Orland Park Mayor, Police Chief Ride for Special Olympics
Mayor Dan McLaughlin and Police Chief Tim McCarthy led the pack of supporters raising funds for Special Olympics Illinois.

As in years past, hundreds August 24 gathered for the two-hour ride through residential and wooded trails. Money raised helps Special Olympics Illinois offer year-round training and competition in 19 sports for the 21,500 Traditional Athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 18,500 young athletes, ages 2-7, with and without intellectual disabilities. Orland Park’s dynamic duo of Police Chief Tim McCarthy and Mayor Dan McLaughlin led the annual bicycle ride to raise funds.
McCarthy is also a long-time supporter of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The annual intrastate relay and its various fundraising projects have two goals: to raise money and to gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised nearly $31 million over 28 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments.
