Orland Park Police Run Cell Phone Enforcement Patrols

ORLAND PARK, IL -- Orland Park police have launched a campaign to reduce distracted driving. Throughout the week, police will be running special cell phone enforcement patrols, looking for drivers talking and texting on their cell phones.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that it takes about five second to read and send a text. In that span of time, a vehicle going 55 miles per hour can travel the length of football field. Distracted driving killed 3,477 people on America’s roads in 2015.

Drivers have one job: driving safely. Fines for talking and texting on a cell phone while driving are $75. So keep it hands free and get home safe. That important text can wait until you’re safely parked and the engine is turned off.
