The staff went on to express its frustration with the decision. The chain known for its burgers and bottomless fries opened in Orland Park in January 2009.

"We are all disappointed in this news and hope to see you at one of our other locations really soon," wrote the location's managing partner, Marie Bubert, on the sign. "Thank you for the bottomless memories."

The location's closing is one of several in Illinois that have closed or will close amid a broader downsizing effort, the company said in March 2025. The chain at that time said it would close around 70 underperforming locations; at the time, there were 17 operating in Illinois. Those included locations in: Algonquin, Champaign, East Peoria, Edwardsville, Fairview Heights, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Norridge, Orland Park, Oswego, Plainfield, Rockford, Schaumburg, Skokie, South Elgin, Springfield and Warrenville.

The Plainfield location closed in July 2025, as previously reported by Patch, followed by a Springfield location in August 2025, as reported by WAND-TV News. A Bolingbrook location closed before both of those, in 2024.

The chain’s revenues were down about $1.25 billion in 2024, a decrease of $54.5 million from 2023, according to a February earnings release. Red Robin posted a $77.5 million loss in 2024, compared to a net loss of $21.2 million the year prior.

Red Robin said it was “evaluating alternatives for approximately 70 underperforming restaurant locations, including closure, upon expiration for the current lease term.”

At the end of 2024, there were 498 Red Robin restaurants nationwide. Of these, 407 were company-owned and 91 were operated by franchisees, according to the company.
