Orland Township Hosts 3rd Annual Souper Bowl Challenge

Residents invited to attend – sample variety of soups and vote for favorites

Warm up for the big game by joining Orland Township at the 3rd Annual Souper Bowl Challenge where you can cast your vote for a favorite soup while helping out the Orland Township Food Pantry and local shelters/soup kitchens, according to Township Souper-Visor Paul O’Grady.

In addition to plenty of soup, the Township’s third annual event will feature kids’ games and prizes, raffles, and celebrity judges.

The Souper Bowl Challenge will feature four “quarters” (categories) of competition:

  • 1st Quarter: Rookies – Foodies between the ages of 12 and 54 years of age
  • 2nd Quarter: Public Service Pro Bowlers – Emergency Services, Education, Government employees, etc.
  • 3rd Quarter: Senior Hall of Famers – Senior Citizens, 55 years of age and older
  • 4th Quarter: Culinary MVPs – Local restaurants and individuals with a culinary degree or certificate.

Guests will be able to sample all the soups in a quarter and then vote for their favorite in each quarter.

Guests will also have the opportunity to meet local celebrity judges, including Storm Team Meteorologist Andy Avalos from NBC Chicago and Star 96.7 morning show hosts Kevin Kollins and Brooke Hunter.

“I invite residents to attend our 3rd Annual Souper Bowl Challenge,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “We’ll have a delicious variety of soups to sample and vote on, games for the kids, music, raffle prizes and the opportunity to meet our celebrity judges, Andy Avalos from NBC Chicago and Kevin and Brooke from the Star 96.7 morning show. It will be a great way to spend a cold Saturday afternoon and help out local soup kitchens and the Orland Township Food Pantry.”

The Souper Bowl Challenge will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Orland Township Office, 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children over 5 years of age (children under 5 are free). Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the Township office or at the door the day of the event.

Entry includes the soup samplings from all entrants (while supplies last), children’s games and the opportunity to enter in various raffles (sold separately).

All contest entrants will be making an extra batch of their specialty soup, which will be donated to local soup kitchens / shelters after the event. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Orland Township Food Pantry.
