Orland Township Looking for Sewing Seniors

Orland Township is looking for resident seniors with sewing skills to join the Township’s new initiative, Operation P.P.E.P (Personal Protection for Essential Personnel), and help make masks that will be donated to local first responders, medical personnel and other front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the office of Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.

Orland Township will provide seniors with all materials, including patterns, instructions, fabric, thread and elastic. Senior residents only need a sewing machine, basic sewing skills and the desire to use their talents to give back to essential personnel who continue to work during the pandemic. Seniors who would like to participate should call the Township at (708) 403-4222 to arrange a delivery of supplies. When finished, the Township will pick-up the masks and distribute them.

“Many people want to do something productive and helpful during the stay at home order,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “The Township’s mask making project, Operation P.P.E.P., will allow seniors to produce a useful and much needed item from the safety of their homes that will then be given to the heroes working the front-line fighting this pandemic.”

Senior residents who would like to participate in the Township’s mask making project should call the Township at (708) 403-4222, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule a delivery of supplies.
