Orland Township is Now a Drug Take Back Site

Orland Township is proud to partner with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and provide a site for residents to safely dispose of unwanted medications, according to the office of Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.

Residents wanting to rid themselves of old, expired or unwanted medications can bring them to Orland Township and place them in a secure drop box for proper disposal by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

There is no fee to use the drop box but some restrictions do apply. Medications can be placed in the drop box, in or out of their original containers, but can only be in pill or dry form. Liquids and syringes will not be accepted. Orland Township has sharps containers available for a fee of $15 to safely and properly dispose of used syringes. Residents needing to dispose of liquid medications should visit fda.gov for information on proper disposal.

“Improper disposal of medications can be hazardous to others and the environment,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “Orland Township is proud to partner with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to provide a secure and convenient manner for residents to properly dispose of old medications.”

The medication disposal drop box is located inside the lobby of the Orland Township Administration Building, 14807 S. Ravinia Ave., Orland Park. The box can be accessed during the Township’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Residents who are homebound can contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office at 1-84-GOT USD RX (1-844-688-7379) to request a free, pre-paid, pre-labeled envelope to mail their unwanted pill and dry medications directly to the Sheriff’s Office for disposal.
