Orland Township Unleashes the Fun at Pet-Palooza
The 12th annual pet fair and fundraiser, Pet-Palooza, attracted nearly 2,500 guests on Saturday, September 21.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Orland Township’s 12th annual pet fair and fundraiser, Pet-Palooza, attracted nearly 2,500 guests on Saturday, September 21. The event featured live entertainment by The Band Sundance, free food samples, a popular Kids Zone, and 50 different vendors. There was something for everyone to enjoy.

Pet-Palooza has become extremely popular among pet owners and animal enthusiasts. Each year, the event celebrates our animal friends in new and exciting ways. From fundraising for the Orland Township Pet Pantry to showcasing a variety of pets including dogs, cats, and even exotic animals like reptiles and arachnids, the festival has become a hub for all things pet related.

The festival is not only about entertaining and making pets happy, but also about providing valuable information for pet owners regarding pet care, health, and well-being. Numerous stalls and vendors are offering a wide range of pet-related products and services, from trendy accessories to nutritious pet food. The festival creates a sense of community by bringing together pet lovers from all walks of life, fostering an environment of joy and companionship.

Additionally, Pet-Palooza’s partnership with local animal rescues is vital to the mission of the event. Animal Welfare League, Cache Creek Rescue, Fido’s Landing 501c3, As Good as Gold Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois, Illinois Shorthair Rescue, NAWS Humane Society, P.A.W.S., St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines, South Suburban Humane Society were all onsite with many adoptable pets and information about them.

"We aim to support local pets in need through the Orland Township Food Pantry, and we also want to facilitate connections between local rescues and community members who are interested in adding a new pet to their family," stated Paul O'Grady, Orland Township Supervisor.

"The experience of being out here and witnessing the multitude of individuals who unite to create a positive impact, whether through generous donations, selfless volunteering, or compassionate adoptions, truly emphasizes the inherent goodness that exists in our world and within our community."
At this year's Pet-Palooza, Orland Township took a moment to honor and remember the life of Robin Kassis, the late coordinator of Orland Township Food & Pet Pantry. Her hard work and dedication have been instrumental in shaping Pet-Palooza into what it is today, and the township is forever grateful for her contributions. Robin Kassis will always be remembered for the significant impact she had not only on Pet-Palooza but on the community as a whole.

"I've only recently discovered the various services offered by Orland Township, particularly those provided through the Food Pantry," shared Jolene Egan, a local resident. "It's wonderful to have access to this support when needed. In today's world, it's becoming increasingly difficult to manage on one's own. We need more local organizations that can offer assistance in the same way the township does. I'm truly grateful that not only people receive support, but our beloved pets as well. They are part of the family."
It’s estimated Orland Township received over 500lbs of donated pet food for the Orland Township Food Pantry. The Township appreciates every donation received, whether it be pet food, human food, monetary, or pet services at Pet-Palooza.
Besides the philanthropy of Pet-Palooza, several family-friendly fun activities are always present: such as pet contests. The most notable winner, however, was Siren Leddin, 2-year-old German Shepherd Dog. The pup was formally announced as Orland Township’s 2024 SuPETvisor on stage before the beginning of six additional contests.
Siren succeeded last year's second elected SuPETvisor, Zeus Pohl, with over 300 votes. Residents can enter their pets in the SuPETvisor contest via the Pet-Palooza Facebook page a month before the event itself, making it the only Pet-Palooza activity that begins beforehand. Otherwise, pets have the opportunity to compete for prizes in Best Dressed, Best Voice, Best Trick, Quick Sit, Bobbing For Hot Dogs, and Fast Finish (a peanut butter eating competition).
