Plan Commission Endorses U of C Medical Center

Next, the plans move on to Orland Park Village Board.

Orland Park Plan Commissioners Tuesday approved of plans for a University of Chicago $50 million outpatient medical clinic in the village’s Main Street Triangle, northwest of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road.

The plans will next go before the Village Board, with the commission’s recommendation for approval. With the board’s support, the groundbreaking for the four-story building could begin as soon as September, said University of Chicago Medicine executive Marco Capicchioni. The building would open by late 2016.

It’s estimated that 700 patients will visit the clinic per day for diagnosis, treatment and therapy services. A CVS on the main floor will be added as a pharmacy, as well. The 108,000-square-foot outpatient center will be ”one-fifth to one-sixth” the size of its neighboring Ninety7Fifty apartment complex. The university will lease the 2.7 acres on which the building sits, and own it outright after 25 years.

Capicchioni told commissioners that the university chose Orland Park because of its “regional draw, not only for commercial but for residential living,” reports the Tribune.
