Rare and Historic Jewish Music Gallery Debuts at OPPL

Orland Park Public Library premieres its 'A Fine Romance' exhibit and tribute to Jewish songwriters.

What's the connection between the song "White Christmas" and a Jewish man? While he may not have celebrated the holiday much, Irving Berlin penned the classic holiday tune.

Berlin was far from the only Jewish composer to make a lasting impact on popular music. Other similar works were explored Friday, July 15 at the opening of the "A Fine Romance" exhibit at the . The exhibit is in honor of the many Jewish songwriters who have contributed to the American songbook. For the special opening, music interpreter Peter Soprisko and his ensemble performed many of the songs featured on the colorful panels that make up the exhibit.

The library is one of only two Illinois locations to have this exhibit (Peoria Public Library has the other), and one of 55 locations in the country to have this colorful panel exhibit. There are also programs scheduled throughout the month and an interactive exhibit in addition to the display.
