The Return of the Taste of Orland Park to the Village Green
The Return of the Taste of Orland Park to the Village Green: A Vision for a Vibrant Community Celebration

Dear Residents of Orland Park,
As Mayor, it’s my duty and honor to listen to your voices and take decisive action to enhance the quality of life in our beautiful village. A lot was discussed at the Monday, May 19, 2025 Meeting of the Village Board. Today, I am excited to share some significant news about one of our beloved annual events: the Taste of Orland Park. After much consideration and listening to your feedback, we will be moving this fantastic community celebration from Centennial Park West back to its original home on the Village Green at Village Hall.

For many years, the Taste of Orland Park was held on the Village Green, the area surrounding Frederick T. Owens Village Hall and the William R. Vogel Civic Center. The location holds nostalgia and character. Residents fondly remember the vibrant atmosphere, the camaraderie, and the ease of accessibility. During my recent campaign, I heard from numerous residents who expressed their desire to return to this iconic site after a particularly intense summer last year, which left many feeling overheated and unsafe in the sprawling expanse of Centennial Park West devoid of running water, access to air conditioning, conveniences for seniors and thoughtful accommodations.
Enhanced Comfort and Convenience

One of the most compelling reasons for this transition is the comfort it brings. The Village Green offers air-conditioned facilities that are crucial during the scorching summer months. With the unpredictability of weather and the well-being of our residents top of mind, being able to retreat to cool, comfortable spaces is invaluable.
Access to well-maintained indoor restrooms enhances everyone’s experience, especially for families, seniors, and those with mobility challenges. Proximity is a significant factor when we consider the enjoyment of our events. The Village Green provides convenient handicap parking and easy access for our senior residents and those needing assistance, ensuring that everyone can participate in the festivities without barriers.
Prioritizing Public Safety
Public safety is, and always will be, my highest priority. The Village Green's layout allows for better crowd control and emergency access compared to the sprawling Centennial Park West. In the event of an emergency, our first responders can quickly reach those in need, ensuring a safe environment for everyone attending. As we transition back to the Village Green, we are committed to enhancing security measures and ensuring that public safety protocols are effectively implemented.
Cost Savings for Our Community
Beyond comfort and safety, moving the event back to the Village Green puts a significant smile on our budget. Hosting the Taste of Orland Park in this traditional venue will result in considerable cost savings for the village. With reduced setup expenses and lower logistical requirements, these savings can be redirected towards other community initiatives that enhance our village’s vibrancy throughout the year. Investing in our community is always my goal, and this change allows us to do just that!
A Celebration of Community Spirit
Ultimately, the Taste of Orland Park is more than just an event; it is a celebration of our community's spirit, culture, and connection. Returning to the Village Green marks not only a logistical change but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to preserving the warmth, neighborliness, and charm that Orland Park is known for. We want to foster an environment where every resident, young and old, feels welcome and cherished.
I am thrilled to announce this positive change as part of our ongoing efforts to promote the well-being, safety, and enjoyment of all Orland Park residents. I look forward to returning to the Village Green for what promises to be yet another unforgettable Taste of Orland Park! Let’s come together to celebrate our community, our friends, and our cherished traditions.
Warm regards,
Jim Dodge
Mayor of Orland Park
