SXU Radio Camp Gives High School Students Hands-On Experience

High school students gain hands-on experience in radio broadcasting at Saint Xavier University's 2018 Summer Media Camp, June 25-29.

CHICAGO, IL -- If you’re a high school student and have always wanted to produce your own radio broadcasts, Saint Xavier University is offering a Student Media Summer Camp. The camp is open to incoming high school freshmen through graduating seniors. The dates are June 25 through June 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will located on SXU's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

The 2018 Student Media Summer Camp offers hands-on experience in radio broadcasting on SXU’s award-winning WXAV. Students learn broadcasting skills, ethics, equipment and terminology. They will also participate in lessons taught by media professionals, SXU communications professionals, staff and students. Students will integrate all they learn to produce their very own radio broadcasts.

WXAV 88.3FM has been the recipient of multiple awards since 2003. In 2012, it was awarded first place in Best Radio Live Game Sports Broadcast, and second place for Best Radio Series or Documentary from an episode for Veteran Matters, both from the Illinois Broadcasting Association Student Silverdome Awards. Between 15,000 and 40,000 area residents listen to WXAV online every month.
