Phone Scam In Palos Park Impersonates 'Veterans Administration'

Palos Park police say senior received spoof call from VA, requesting money to process veterans benefits.

PALOS PARK, IL -- Palos Park police are following up on a report of a phone scam in which a senior was spoofed into taking a call from someone impersonating a veterans administration staff member. The caller tried to get the senior to give up her financial information.

On Dec. 21, police said that a senior received a call from a “VA staff member” requesting money to process benefits claims for a veteran. Police said the senior’s caller ID showed the spoof number an actual veterans administration facility, in an attempt to disguise the scammer.

This pension poaching scam has been surfacing throughout the country. The Veterans Administration is aware of the scam and wants the public to know that the VA will never call veterans or their families requesting money or a payment.
