Suspect Captured On Video Busting Windows And Stealing 2 Canaries

The resident woke up to sound of breaking glass and discovered that a pair of canaries had been stolen from the patio, police said.

PALOS PARK, IL — Palos Park police are investigating a criminal property damage incident that happened early Tuesday morning. Two pet canaries were also stolen from the homeowner’s patio.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on July 9, a resident woke up after hearing breaking glass. The homeowner walked downstairs and found that a patio window facing Deerpath had been broken. A man of unknown race and age wearing a black hoodie was seen running northeast down Deerpath toward Mohawk. The homeowner found that a second window had also been broken and a pair of yellow canaries in their cages were taken from the patio.

Grainy video captured a four-door vehicle traveling northbound on Seminole toward the Route 7 exit ramp around 2:45 a.m.

Investigators have been combing through other home security video that showed the suspect in the area around 2 a.m. Infrared photos showed the man was trying to open a patio door on Mohawk, police said. He also entered an unlocked vehicle but didn’t take anything.

Palos Park police are asking residents from the area of Iroquois, Mohawk, Deerpath and Seminole Road who have home security video systems to review footage from 2:45 to 3 a.m. on July 9.
