Sandburg Football Coach Resigns
Dave Wierzal led the team for 9 years, which included seven playoff appearances.

ORLAND PARK, IL — Dave Wierzal, head football coach at Carl Sandburg High School, has resigned his position after nine years leading the Eagles. Sandburg Principal Deborah Baker, and Athletic Director Mark Krusz were notified of Wierzal’s decision earlier this week.
Wierzal led the Eagles to a 53-37 record during his nine-season tenure including seven trips to the IHSA playoffs. He cited personal and professional reasons for his decision.
“Dave is a quality person and a quality coach,” said Krusz. “He has influenced the lives of many young men that have come through Sandburg. The experiences he helped create for our athletes, students, alumni, staff and the entire community will be hard to duplicate. He should be proud of the program he has created.”

“It is difficult to accept a resignation from an individual who has had such a positive influence on student athletes and coaching staff,” remarked Baker. “We are, however, inspirited by the fact that Coach Wierzal has expressed an interest to continue his involvement at the lower levels, which we will be more than happy to consider.”
Sandburg will begin its search for a replacement as soon as possible and expects many qualified candidates to step forward.
