Sandburg High School Quizbowl Team Heads To Nationals

Team from Carl Sandburg High School will be competing at high school quizbowl National Scholastic Championship in Reston, Virginia.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- A team of very smart Carl Sandburg High School students is headed to a national high school quiz bowl competition this weekend. The Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence National Scholastic Championship commences June 2 and June 3 in Reston, VA, at the Hyatt Regency. Sandburg quizbowlers will compete against more than 90 other high school teams from around the country and the world.

Carl Sandburg’s team took 86th place at the tournament last year. The team ranked 97th in the nation in an April ranking of teams. The Sandburg quizbowlers is comprised of seniors Mayokun Abiona and Claudia Danowski, and juniors Aristotle Vainikos and Ben Walter.

Quizbowl is an academic competition played between two teams of up to four players. Players buzz in on questions, which cover a wide range of academic topics including literature, history, science, and the arts. The PACE NSC is a great experience for teams who want to play high school quizbowl at its greatest level and to go up against the best teams in the country.

Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence (PACE), founded in 1996 by a volunteer group of players and coaches, has been promoting high school quizbowl for over 20 years. In addition to running the annual National Scholastic Championship, PACE recognizes high-quality local tournaments and sponsors the Quizbowl Resource Center, a hub for tournaments, question sets, and discussion.
