It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Scott C. Nye, on July 2nd at the age of 65. Scott is survived by his two children, Rachael (Jeff) Midday and Ian Nye, his mother, Marilynn Nye, his brother Gary (Darlene) Nye, along with nieces Karie (Richard) Nash, Andrea Nye, Sierra Nye, and nephews Brent (Patty) Beckwith, Shane Beckwith and Seth Dow. Scott had a profound love for animals, and will also be greatly missed by his two cats, Trouble and Spooky, as well as his “grand-puppy” Watson, and “grand-kitties” Bromeo, Arya and Bronn. We take comfort knowing that Scott is free of pain and now reunited in death with his father Louis H. Nye and sister, Andrea Nye Beckwith.
Scott was born in 1953 and grew up in Arlington Heights with his parents Louis and Marylinn Nye and two siblings, Andrea and Gary. He was a 4-year high school football and track athlete for Prospect and went on to Taylor University from 1973-1975. He graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy, from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School in 1978. He attended graduate school at Northwestern University, in the Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy Master’s program, from 1984-1985 and completed his advanced clinical residency, in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, in 1985. Scott was a lifelong scholar and an avid reader.
In 1990, Scott opened his own private practice, Orland Therapy Specialists, Ltd. He spent the next 28 years committed to the service of his patients, going above and beyond to help them in any way possible. He took pride in providing quality, individualized manual orthopedic physical therapy services to Orland Park and the surrounding community, and his legacy will continue on at his OTS clinic. Scott dedicated his life to helping others and it is very apparent that he succeeded in doing so.
Scott lived a full life and had a hard time sitting still. He was an avid runner and cyclist, and competed in countless marathons and triathlons. He also greatly enjoyed competitive shooting; he was president of the Fifty Caliber Shooter’s Association and a member of their Board of Directors for more than a decade. He was a 5-time consecutive Two-Gun World Champion from 1998 to 2002. Scott also dedicated himself to advancing research related to long range shooting, and often shared his knowledge with numerous military units, law enforcement, industry, and academia. He assisted companies in developing new precision .50 caliber shooting products and provided technical support (remotely and in person) to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, US Army, Marine Corps and Navy units, as well as the US Coast Guard, in matters of long-range, large-caliber precision shooting.
Scott was a wonderful man whose memory will never be forgotten. His family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, July 28th from 1-4pm at the Palos Country Club, with a small service starting promptly at 2pm, followed by light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Navy Seal Foundation, AmericanSnipers.org, or your local Animal Welfare Organization in Scott’s name.A Celebration of Scott’s Life
