Shots Fired on Eisenhower Expressway

A man in a minivan was shot at at least seven times.

A man was shot Friday morning on the inbound Eisenhower Expressway near Central Avenue, according to reports.

The man was traveling east in a silver minivan around 8 a.m. Friday when state police said someone fired shots from inside a blue Jeep between Austin and Central avenues, ABC7 reports.

The driver of the minivan got off the expressway, stopped on Maypole Street and called for help. Police found at least seven bullet holes in the windshield, and a shattered passenger-side window. Officials said he was shot at least two or three times—one to the head_and was in serious to critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

State police are investigating. Shell casings were found on the expressway. Officers believe the suspect may have been wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

In recent months, a handful of expressway shootings have been reported.

  • on June 8, a man in his 20s was shot on the Dan Ryan at 3 a.m. near 31st Street
  • a 1:30 a.m. shooting on Lake Shore Drive on June 10 in which the victim said he did not know the shooter
