St. Coletta’s presents Antonio Rubino with Friendship Award

Orland Township Highway Commissioner Antonio Rubino has been a good friend to St. Coletta’s of Illinois, supplementing its vocational training programs and therapeutic day school with refurbished electronics.

On Aug. 7, the nonprofit thanked Rubino for his support by presenting him with a Friendship Award.

“Because of Commissioner Rubino, we have been able to put more technology in the hands of our students and adult participants,” said St. Coletta’s CEO Heather Benedick. “They no longer have to wait for an iPad or tablet to become available when working on a classroom project or learning how to run inventory in our central purchasing vocational training program.”

Based in Tinley Park, St. Coletta’s of Illinois provides educational and vocational training services to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its therapeutic day school serves children ages 3-21 while its Community Day Services program works with adults, building adaptive learning skills, economic self-sufficiency, independence and integration into the community.

Rubino, whose department oversees the township’s electronics recycling program, regularly donates some of the newer, more serviceable computers, iPads and tablets to St. Coletta’s of Illinois.

“I am in awe of the wonderful services St. Coletta’s provides to the children and adults in our community and I am happy to facilitate these donations through the eWorks program,” said Commissioner Rubino. “It is an honor to be friends with St. Coletta’s.”

The refurbished electronics from Orland Township are often used in the classroom to research careers, create resumes and participate in interactive lessons with teachers on Smart Boards.
