When it comes to creating and hosting innovative fundraisers, Federal Signal Corporation in University Park really takes the cake, or in this case, the cookies.

Federal Signal Corporation recently designed a local company-wide bake sale fundraiser as part of sweetening the holidays at the firm’s University Park location. The innovative event was designed to raise money for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF).

Federal Signal Corporation is a driving force for public safety products and systems essential to first responders and work truck applications. For more than a half century the firm has provided the innovation for the latest technological breakthroughs in audible and visual signaling and digital in-car video. Federal Signal is known for its ability to combine new technology with years of industry experience and takes pride in providing solutions that keep drivers safe on the road. And judging from the success of its latest event, the firm’s innovative fundraising techniques should also be recognized.

During the holiday season Federal Signal Corporation employees were asked to purchase homemade cookies from the company-wide bake sale Fundraiser. After the last tasty morsel left the table, the event had raised $930 for the Treasure Chest Foundation. Federal Signal Corporation employees thus purchased 186, $5.00 gift cards from various stores teens shop at to benefit the teens fighting cancer.

Federal Signal Corporation Bake Sale Chairperson Joyce Enright said, “We are so glad that we were able to make a difference this year for the teens served by the Treasure Chest Foundation. The organization is such a blessing to so many children.”

POTCF Founder and CEO Colleen Kisel is especially grateful to Federal Signal Corporation for finding a unique way to raise funds for teens fighting cancer. “Thanks to the overwhelming success of their bake sale 2020 will be brighter and happier for the brave teens who benefit from our services across the nation,” said an appreciative Ms. Kisel.

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 14,000 young cancer patients in 59 cancer treatment centers in 20 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 26th anniversary of remission from the disease in March of 2019.
