Village of Orland Park Debuts New Rainout App

ORLAND PARK, IL (March 1, 2018) – Learning if a sports event is cancelled is now easier in the Village of Orland Park. The village’s Parks and Grounds Department recently unveiled its new Rainout Line, with a number of ways to access current facility and field information.

Thousands of athletes and fans visit the village’s 65 sports fields throughout the year.

“The village has used its call in recorded inclement weather hotline since the late 80s,” said Trustee Dan Calandriello, chair of the village’s Recreation and Parks Committee. “The new app is great for everyone who visits the village’s facilities --- from Orland Park and those from out of town.”

Participants can choose the technology they want to use including a website, an app on an iphone or Android smartphone or email and text alerts.

“Our new system makes it easier for everyone to know whether a field is playable before heading out,” said Orland Park Director of Parks and Grounds Gary Couch. “People can set up specific alerts for the ballfields where they play all of the time. It’s that convenient.”

The Rain Out Line app can be downloaded for free from the App Store, Android Market, Amazon Appstore for Android and Nook.

“Orland Park hosts a number of tournaments throughout the season and this will make it easier for people coming from out of town,” Couch added. “We will be saving a lot of people unnecessary trips to ballfields only to learn that a game is cancelled.”

Once added to a device, alerts can be tailored for specific areas and saved as favorites.

“We’re not only using this for ballfields, we’re using it village wide for all of our facilities,” Calandriello said. “If the ice rink isn’t open, we can let people know and if a ballfield is not playable because of rain, that can be posted too. It’s a great, easy to use service.”
