What the Cluck? Orland Man Refused to Give Name, Birthday to Cop Citing Him For Keeping Chickens: Police

The man explained that he bought the three chickens for his children, police said.

An Orland Park man was arrested for refusing to give his name and date of birth to a cop trying to cite him for keeping chickens, police said.

Mohammed Ayyad, 36, was charged with obstructing a peace officer and unlawfully keeping poultry.

A police officer was reportedly sent to Ayyad’s 163rd Street home to assist an animal control officer who learned he had been keeping chickens at his house.

One of Ayyad’s neighbors had told the authorities “that chickens were roaming free in the area,” police said, but “Mohammed denied ownership of the fowl.”

Ayyad eventually admitted “he had purchased three chickens for his children. Two of them had been captured and one still remained at large,” police said.

“Mohammed stated that he had taken two of the chickens to a farm in Kankakee,” police said. “He advised that he had tried unsuccessfully to capture the rooster.”

Ayyad repeatedly refused to provide his name and date of birth to an officer who was trying to fill out a citation, police said. When the officer had enough and went to handcuff Ayyad, the chicken-keeper allegedly pulled away from him and briefly struggled.
