The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home was deemed uninhabitable.
ORLAND PARK, IL — An Orland Park home was deemed uninhabitable after a fire Monday night, but the homeowner made it out safely after being alerted to the flames by a witness.
The fire in 9800 block of Avenida Del Este is believed to have started in a shed adjacent to the home, but quickly spread into the attic of the tri-level home by 10:45 p.m., according to Ray Hanania, Orland Fire Protection District spokesman.
The homeowner was alerted to the fire by an unknown person who saw the flames and "kept banging on the door until the resident answered," Hanania said. There were no injuries at the scene. The homeowner met firefighters outside the home, informing them that everyone was out safely.
