55 Tickets Issued In Oswego Police Memorial Day Campaign

Oswego police released a breakdown of citations issued during its Memorial Day enforcement campaign, which lasted May 19 to May 30.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego police issued a total of 55 citations during their Memorial Day "Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign.

The effort, targeting seat belt usage, began May 19 and lasted until May 30, the day after Memorial Day was observed.

  • 44 seat belt
  • 9 distracted driving
  • 1 stop sign/traffic signal
  • 1 uninsured driver

Police also made two warrant arrests during the enforcement campaign.

In Illinois, the compliance rate for seat belt usage is currently 93 percent, and unbelted occupants continue to account for more than half of people killed in car crashes, according to police.

“Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, we helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts and child safety restraints save lives," Public Information Officer Cathy Nevara said in a statement.
