OSWEGO, IL — Investigators announced charges against the 44-year-old Oswego man who threatened to shoot officers before a gun went off inside a residence Sept. 25, police said Thursday.
Kasey W. Bawden was charged with aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault and taken into custody Thursday morning in connection with the incident in the 500 block of Colchester Drive.
At about 12:54 a.m. that Friday, Oswego police were called to Bawden's residence for a domestic disturbance that later escalated into an "armed incident," officials said.
After officers initially cleared the call, they left with the Oswego Fire Protection District when Bawden called 911 requesting medical assistance. Police heard threats directed at officers and a firearm discharged inside the residence, according to a news release.

After a shelter-in-place order was issued and "several hours of negotiations," Bawden surrendered, and police took him into custody. He was taken to a hospital for a psychological evaluation.
The aggravated battery charged stemmed from Bawden slapping an officer's hand away while approaching the officer. The two aggravated assault charges were a result of the man "allegedly audibly chambering a round and discharging a firearm while making threats against responding police officers," officials said.
Bawden will remain in jail, with his next court date scheduled for Nov. 12.
